WWorld Environment Day takes place on June 5th every year and is the United Nations’ primary tool to promote global awareness and action to protect our environment. First held in 1974, it was a flagship campaign to raise awareness of emerging environmental issues, from marine pollution, human overpopulation and global warming to sustainable consumption and wildlife crime. The campaign is led by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the largest global platform for environmental outreach, and is celebrated by millions of people around the world.

This main UN instrument for promoting global awareness and action on the environment is a very important platform for promoting progress on the environmental dimensions of the Sustainable Development Goals to promote environmental concerns by corporate bodies, non-governmental organisations, communities, governments and celebrities from around the world the world.

Host this year was Sweden with the theme “Only One Earth”. This was the motto of the first United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, held in Stockholm in 1972. This put sustainable development on the global agenda and led to the launch of World Environment Day. With the motto “One Earth Only”, World Environment Day 2022 emphasized the need to live sustainably in harmony with nature by changing our policies and choices in favor of a cleaner and more environmentally friendly lifestyle.

Why join now? Time is pressing, nature is in emergency mode. To keep global warming below 1.5°C this century, we need to halve annual greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Without action, exposure to air pollution in excess of safe guidelines will increase by 50 percent within the decade and plastic waste entering aquatic ecosystems will nearly triple by 2040.

We must act urgently to address these pressing issues so that Only One Earth and its focus on living sustainably in harmony with nature is as relevant as ever.

Therefore, growing trees, greening cities, naturalizing gardens, changing diets or cleaning up rivers and coasts are of great importance today for improving our environment.

Why celebrate the year 2022? World Environment Day 2022 celebrations

June 5th should provide an awareness campaign and the importance of the annual celebration and most importantly the tree planting campaign in our immediate area so that we can connect people to nature, encourage them to stay outdoors and enjoy the breath of fresh air and appreciate its beauty. Reflect on how much we are part of nature and how much we depend on it.

By supporting World Environment Day 2022 and the #OnlyOneEarth campaign, you can help keep this unique and beautiful planet a comfortable home for humanity.

The first World Environment Day (WED) has been organized and celebrated since 1974 under the motto “One Earth Only”, but in 1987 the idea of rotating the center of these activities by choosing different host countries began. WED was a major campaign on environmental issues ranging from marine pollution to human overgrowth, raising awareness of global warming, sustainable consumption and wildlife crime, among others.

This day can also be celebrated in unique ways, e.g. B. through tree planting campaigns, awareness programs in schools and on social media platforms, awareness programs in churches and mosques and the distribution of flyers in public places on the importance of the day.

The “One Earth” issue is very critical today as millions of plant and animal species are threatened with extinction. Therefore, focusing on the One Earth theme has never been more important than now. Therefore, 2022 is a year of urgency, ambition and action to address nature’s crisis linked to climate change.

So today, I encourage each and every one of us to accelerate, amplify, and engage people, communities, and even governments to take action on critical environmental challenges facing the planet, so that we may preserve and restore ONE EARTH, and in return the ecosystem will provide us with its services, which include food availability, water supply and fresh air, among others.

The rate at which human activities are destroying the ecosystem through deforestation, bush burning, construction including mining, intensified agriculture and encroachment on wildlife habitats will continue to destroy the entire universe and/or exceed Earth’s carrying capacity, so it will be over Beyond the limits of nature, the loss of biodiversity will have serious consequences for humanity, including the collapse of food and health systems.

Now you can see how important it is to celebrate World Environment Day annually to promote global awareness and action to protect the environment.

This day should help raise global awareness of the threats to our environment and ensure that environmental issues are tackled from the bottom up. This day could be the day we start making lifestyle changes to reduce our carbon footprint.

Together for the environment, for a better future!!!
