Best Blender for Smoothies (And More)

Vitamix E310 Exploratory Blender

Vitamix has been the go-to for our test kitchen for years, and this test just proved what our pros have always known: this Vitamix E310 Exploratory Blender is a top machine.

At first glance, the Vitamix doesn’t look like much – all it has is a simple on/off button and speed dial. Don’t let that fool you. The second you flip the switch, you get a powerful blending vortex that transforms a handful of ingredients into perfect tropical berry smoothies or horchata or mango lassi in seconds. With this level of power and speed, “it’s no wonder Vitamix blenders were originally designed for use in restaurants,” says Sarah.

While the Vitamix was our test kitchen’s favorite for making fresh smoothies and smoothie bowls, it performed well on all other tests as well. Frozen margaritas, soups, dips, spreads and more thrive in this blender without a single hiccup.

Because of the sheer power and output of this machine, Sarah suggests this is also a great model for people who are serious about cooking and “experimenting with all kinds of food and drink.” This is a chef level appliance and serious chefs will enjoy using it in their kitchen.

The most innovative blender

Braun TriForce Power Blender

When it comes to gadgets, our Test Kitchen team thought they’d seen it all but this Braun TriForce Power Blender blew us away. This blender may look like a standard countertop appliance, but it has many welcome surprises in store.

This model really impressed our test kitchen with some unique design features. First, unlike any other model our team has used, this Braun blender features a triangular pitcher. This unusual shape is designed to push food down toward the blade for smooth blends. “The mixing results were great,” says Sarah of her testing with this model.

Aside from the unique shape, this Braun blender has all the classic buttons you’d expect from a blender (Pulse, Puree, etc.) but also has a texture control wheel. Instead of guessing what combination of pulses and speeds will give you perfect homemade peanut butter, you can simply select the finish you want on the dial: smooth, medium, or coarse. The machine does all the work without having to stop and check every few pulses. While the blender does its job well, Sarah recommends staying close to the machine in case you need to mash ingredients with the included plunger.

For even more customization, you can choose from a few presets: soup, smoothie, cutlet, ice crush, frozen dessert, or spread. This Braun blender does all the work for you.

advantages

What our test kitchen liked about the Braun mixer:

  • Useful texture wheel
  • super strong
  • Super sharp German blades

Disadvantages

Consider these factors before purchasing:

  • Expensive
  • Loud (even for a mixer)

  • 1,600 watts
